What I learned from 5 years at Facebook Creative Shop

On your last day at Facebook there is a tradition of posting a picture of your badge and reflecting on what you have learned.

Over the last 5 years I’ve been leading a globally distributed in house team of Creatives and Strategists. In this time our Creative Shop team worked with clients and agencies on over 10,000 advertising campaigns and I learned a lot about where advertising is today and what it will look like in the future.

Gaming companies weren’t just getting new customers, they were developing new game ideas as advertising and building the ones got the most engagement.

Fast growing e-commerce companies didn’t use agencies, but built in house teams who combined media, creative and analytics. Smart creatives battled to make the 1st second of their idea cut through a sea of selfies and cat videos. All these ideas, experiments and opportunities collided billions of times a day in the ad auction algorithm.

Now is a time of huge change. New companies are being born and old businesses are being reinvented.

I want to be part of this change and for me this means leaving facebook, which I did 2 months ago.

My new venture helps in house teams build the next generation of performance brands and there will be more updates on this in July.
